Why Mindset Is Essential In Affiliate Marketing
Mindset Is The Foundation Of Change
The focus will forever be on money for most people who want to be successful. You have those on a fixed mindset, while the other is on a growth mindset. We’ll explore them both later in this blog post but first I’d like to share with you my story about how I began my journey.
In the beginning, I only cared about what was in it for me and nothing else. I was drowning in debt and the only thing I gave a f*ck about was getting rich online. I got little to no results and jumped from one opportunity to the next. Sounds familiar to you?
It was frustrating when I wasn’t getting results. Voices in my head would say to me “Why turn back now?” any time I decided to throw in the towel and call it quits. It took years of practice to understand the simple fact that if I was to go far in the industry I was involved in, my mindset had to change.
Otherwise, I’d continue being the donkey trying to eat the dangling carrot. If it wasn’t for getting coaching and mentorship, I’d still be the donkey chasing the dangling carrot. I don’t want you to fall into the same pitfall I fell in.
In this article we’ll discuss the difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset, and also 4 special chemicals of the brain that trigger a good different feeling when you have achieved a goal.
Difference Between A Fixed & Growth Mindset
Fixed Mindset
Remember how your parents or teachers stressed the importance of studying hard to get a degree so you can get a good-paying job? Or when commercials tell you the same thing about college and a job. It’s the belief that abilities, intelligence, and talents equal success.
You often thought you were born with a certain amount of skill, and no matter how much effort you put in, you can’t improve. Have you ever grown up avoiding challenges, and giving up on things easily? You probably saw failure as a reflection of your inherent limitations.
If you experienced any of these things, I hate to break it to you but you were born under a fixed mindset. Is it your fault? No, of course not. There’s always room for improvement.
Growth Mindset
If you follow people like Bill Gates or Elon Musk, these two work on a growth mindset. It’s the belief that abilities and intelligence can be developed with hard work and effort, learning, and being relentless. They embrace challenges, persist through setbacks, and view failure as an opportunity to grow and improve.
How Do Chemicals Work
Whether you’re on a fixed or a growth mindset, at the end of the day you look to seek “happiness”. Hell, even elephants seek happiness once they finally find some water in the jungle.
That’s where the 4 chemicals come into play. The feeling of happiness comes from 4 chemicals: dopamine, endorphin, oxytocin, and serotonin. Each chemical triggers a different emotion. I’ll explain…
1. Dopamine: The Reward Chemical
– In the body: Dopamine is released when we achieve a goal, giving us a sense of pleasure and satisfaction.
– In affiliate marketing: Think of dopamine as the commission you earn from each successful sale or lead. Every time you see a sale notification, or your affiliate dashboard show a new commission, that spike of excitement and accomplishment is your “dopamine hit.” This keeps on your grind, working hard and pushing forward!
2. Endorphin: The Painkiller Chemical
– In the body: Endorphins are released during physical activity or stress, helping reduce pain and boost mood.
– In affiliate marketing: Endorphins are like the “feel-good” rush after overcoming challenges, such as learning new strategies, navigating through difficult campaigns, or optimizing ads that initially failed. When you push through the grind and see results, your endorphins kick in, making the effort worth it.
3. Oxytocin: The Love Hormone
– In the body: Oxytocin is often called the bonding chemical, promoting feelings of trust and connection.
– In affiliate marketing: Oxytocin represents the relationships you build with your audience. When you create valuable content, engage with your followers, and help them solve problems, they trust you more. This bond makes people more likely to purchase products you recommend, creating a sense of loyalty and mutual benefit.
4. Serotonin: The Mood Stabilizer
– In the body: Serotonin helps regulate mood, social behavior, and well-being.
– In affiliate marketing: Serotonin is the feeling of pride and fulfillment you get from long-term success. When you see your affiliate business grow steadily over time and your audience values your input, you experience a sense of accomplishment. This lasting feeling of happiness from doing meaningful work keeps you balanced, preventing burnout and sustaining your passion for the business.
Summary:
– Dopamine = The thrill of making sales and earning commissions.
– Endorphin = The satisfaction after pushing through challenges.
– Oxytocin = Building trust and relationships with your audience.
– Serotonin = The pride from long-term success and well-being.
Each of these chemicals drives you in a different way, just like different aspects of affiliate marketing keep you motivated, connected, and successful.
What Does Mindset Have to Do With Affiliate Marketing?
Well, everything! If you’re not in the right state of mind, you won’t be successful. You must learn how to change your mindset, stop thinking like an employee, and start thinking like an entrepreneur.
You must learn how to get through mental blocks. It happens to everyone that starts affiliate marketing. In the beginning, you only see what’s in it for you.
You only see what you’ll get from it once you have success. Keep in mind, it’s not about what you want. It’s about shifting your focus on the way you look at affiliate marketing and being of service helping others get what they want.
Conclusion
A lot of people fail affiliate marketing because they don’t have the right mindset. Nothing you do in this business will come to fruition if you’re not working on your mindset.
