3 Biggest Mistakes First-Time Online Marketers Make

February 24, 2023by support@jasonahopkinscoaching.com

Do you Want The Good News 1st or The Bad News?

The world of online marketing is a fun and lucrative industry. But if you’re not careful, it’s easy to get lost in it. But the good news for you is that there are lots of resources out there.

Many of them are free! The bad news is that even if you find the right information, it’s really easy to make mistakes. Making mistakes is part of the process when learning new things, but these five common mistakes can be avoided if you know what they are.

Starting Without a Plan or Strategy

Of course, you want to have the right offer. However, having a plan is essential to success. It’s difficult to succeed without one, but it’s even more difficult when you have no idea what your end goal is.

The first step in creating your plan is deciding what you want to achieve with your marketing efforts and how much time and money you can spend on them. From there, come up with some strategies for reaching those goals–for example: “I want to start generating at least 20 leads a week for the next 8 weeks.”

Once you know what your goals are, you need a way of measuring whether or not they’ve been met (i.e., tracking) so that you know when it’s time either adjust your strategy or move onto another one altogether.

Not Targeting The Right Audience

So your message must match the market. So whatever niche you’re in, you want to make sure you’re targeting the right demographic. Imagine trying to market meat online to vegans or marketing Scotch whisky to underage students.

You want to find out where these groups hang out at. What forum sites or message boards do they visit. What social media groups do they chime in on and what YouTube channels are they following. Conduct your market research, study your competition, and see if your followers have questions unanswered.

Not Having A Marketing Budget In Place

Don’t listen to anyone telling you “Money isn’t required to build an online business.”. This theory can be no further from the truth. If you’re an affiliate marketer, it takes money to earn those high-ticket commissions. I had to learn this the hard way back when I started my 1st affiliate program in 2015.

Now some paid traffic sources aren’t that expensive. But it’s important to know that when you have the budget to invest in an online like affiliate marketing, learn how that paid traffic source works first before investing.
Oh but wait, it gets worse.
If you are in this business for the long haul, you may want to consider hiring a marketing expert (invest in a coach) to teach you the fundamentals of marketing, learning all areas of business.

Conclusion

The key to success for first-time online marketers is having a plan and sticking to it. It’s easy to get caught up in all the hype surrounding digital marketing, but at the end of the day, you need a solid strategy that will help your business reach its goals.

You can’t just jump into things without thinking about how each decision will affect your bottom line or wasting money on things that don’t work out well long term.
